Consider an After School Program for articulation or mild to moderate language that can use some boosting but doesn’t qualify for free services through your school. This could be due to not being educationally handicapping. For example, if a child in 3rd or 4th grade is pronouncing th for an s or a w for an r, you may think that would be something the school would identify and work with. Schools are bound by regulations that must demonstrate that there is an “adverse educational effect”. If your child is meeting standards, not showing difficulty with reading, writing or spelling linked to his articulation delays, then no adverse educational effect can be shown. The schools would be unable to qualify despite that these are sounds that should be in place by 3rd or 4th grade. After school programming is a great way to work on those areas that need to be addressed but don’t fall within the moderate to severe range of deficit level.

We provide extra sessions beyond what your child’s school may do. Sometimes an extra boost can be made by working on goals outside of school as an adjunct to in school service.
